Chaos

So, I know you are all wondering why I haven't been on this here blog. I am sorry that I haven't kept you updated. Reality set in quite quickly and I got so busy I didn't know which way was up. But the dust is starting to settle and school is under way. Now I have a few moments to breathe and blog.

No Place of my Own
Some of you may know that Sarah, my new teammate, and I have been displaced for a while. See, my flat is owned by a pharmacy that has a connection to my school. I won't go into the connection but it's nepotism plain and simple. The pharmacy hired a guy from Croatia to work here this summer and guess where he is living....Yes! my flat. Sarah and I have been staying at Tammy and Marianne's pad and they have been gracious hostesses. There are four of us in a two bedroom flat. But miracles of miracles, there hasn't been any problems. However, I am ready to go home. I can't wait to sleep in my own bed and cook in my own kitchen.

The Joys of Teaching
This is the first full week of school. I started teaching on Monday. My poor students, my rules get harder every year. We have changed the grading scale this year so all English teachers are consistent. Apparently, I am very strict with grades. Here's the grading scale after our compromise:(Students get a grade of 1-5, with 5 being the worst)
100 - 91 =1 (A)
90 - 71 =2 (B)
70 - 45 =3 (C)
44 - 35 = 4 (D)
34 - 0 =5 (F)
Needless to say, this is very difficult for me to understand. It seems completely unfair to me but I do think all teachers in the same dept. should grade the same. I probably won't be as lenient on test scores as I have been in the past. I'll let you know how it goes. That's all I have time for now. Will try to get one more posted this week.

Miss y'all!

Dude-
You have someone putting an ad on your blog. Bastards. Don't let that discourage you. We will all just ignore it.
Glad you are starting to get settled in. And it's certainly nice to hear that you are still a hard core teacher (insert whip crack here).
Have a great year!
